About The Oliphant Ancient Tartan

Clan Oliphant is a distinguished Scottish Lowland clan with roots dating back to the 12th century. The name is believed to be of Norman origin, introduced to Scotland by Sir William Oliphant, a noble knight who supported King David I.

The Oliphants established themselves primarily in Perthshire and Angus, becoming notable landowners and warriors. The clan played a significant role in Scottish history, with members fighting in the Wars of Scottish Independence.

One prominent figure was Sir Walter Oliphant, who served as Chamberlain of Scotland. The Oliphant family seat was at Gask, and their ancestral home, Dupplin Castle, was an important stronghold.
