About The MacLean of Duart Muted Tartan
Clan MacLean of Duart is the principal branch of the powerful Clan MacLean, with its ancestral seat at Duart Castle on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides. The MacLeans trace their lineage back to the early medieval period, descending from the Gaelic "Mac Gille Eathain", meaning "son of the servant of Saint John."
The MacLeans of Duart were renowned warriors and sea-farers, playing key roles in the turbulent clan wars of the Highlands and Isles. Known for their fierce independence, they held significant lands on Mull and were influential players in Scottish history, especially during the Jacobite risings.
