About The MacAuley Red Modern Tartan

Clan MacAuley (or MacAulay) is a Scottish clan with Highland and Hebridean origins, and in some cases, Irish roots as well. The name comes from the Gaelic "Mac Amhalghaidh" or "Mac Amhlaibh", meaning "son of Amhalghaidh" or "son of Olaf," depending on the region.

This gives the clan both Celtic and Norse heritage, especially among branches from the Western Isles and Ulster. The best-known Scottish branch of the clan held lands in Ardincaple, near Helensburgh in Dunbartonshire.

The MacAuleys of Ardincaple were a distinct and recognized Highland clan, with a fierce reputation as warriors and loyal allies in clan conflicts.
