About The Cranston Dress Muted Tartan
Clan Cranston is a Lowland Scottish clan originating from the Borders region, particularly in Midlothian and Roxburghshire. The name is territorial in origin, derived from the barony of Cranston, near Dalkeith. The Cranstons were a well-known Borders family from as early as the 12th century and were involved in the turbulent history of the Scottish Borders, frequently engaged in feuds, riding, and military service.
They were loyal to the Scottish crown during the Wars of Independence and supported Robert the Bruce. Although the clan has no currently recognized chief and is considered armigerous today, the Cranstons were historically respected landholders and knights.
