About The MacKinnon Hunting Ancient Tartan
Clan MacKinnon is an ancient Highland clan with roots in the Inner Hebrides, particularly the islands of Skye and Mull. The name comes from the Gaelic "Mac Fhionghuin", meaning "son of the fair-born" or "son of Fingon."
The MacKinnons claim descent from the early Celtic royal house of Alpin, making them one of the oldest clans in Scotland. The MacKinnons were closely allied with Clan MacGregor and Clan MacDonald, and they held lands on Mull and Strathaird in Skye.
They were known as seafarers, warriors, and, notably, as supporters of the Jacobite cause during the uprisings of the 17th and 18th centuries.
