About The MacKenzie Weathered Tartan

Clan MacKenzie is one of the most celebrated and influential Highland clans, with ancestral lands in Ross-shire, particularly around Kintail and later Castle Leod near Strathpeffer. The name derives from the Gaelic "MacCoinnich", meaning "son of Coinneach," with Coinneach translating as "handsome" or "fair one."

Rising to power in the 15th and 16th centuries, the MacKenzies were renowned for their political influence, military strength, and strategic alliances. They were often at odds with neighboring clans such as the MacDonalds and the MacLeods, yet emerged as one of the most powerful families in the Highlands by the 17th century.
