About The MacKay Blue Modern Tartan

Clan MacKay is a powerful and ancient Highland clan from the far north of Scotland, particularly associated with Strathnaver in Sutherland. The name comes from the Gaelic "Mac Aoidh", meaning "son of Aodh," with Aodh being an old Gaelic name meaning "fire." This fiery spirit has long been associated with the clan's courage and leadership.

Historically, the MacKays were known as fierce warriors and staunch defenders of their territory, often clashing with rival clans such as the Sutherlands and Gunns. Despite their remote location, the clan played a significant role in Scottish history, including during the Wars of Scottish Independence and the Jacobite risings.
