About The MacIan Modern Tartan
Clan MacIan is a Scottish clan with roots deeply embedded in the Isle of Skye and the Inner Hebrides. The name MacIan means "son of Ian" or "son of John," derived from the Gaelic "Mac Iain. " The clan is historically a branch of the larger and powerful Clan Donald (MacDonald), one of the most influential Highland clans.
Known for their fierce independence and loyalty, the MacIans played significant roles in the clan wars and political dynamics of the Highlands. They were chiefly centered around Trotternish on Skye, where their chiefs held sway.
Today, Clan MacIan is recognized for its proud lineage and strong connection to the MacDonald family, with descendants often wearing the MacDonald tartan.
