About The MacGillivray Modern Tartan
Clan MacGillivray is a proud Highland clan originating from the Braes of Lochaber in the western Scottish Highlands. The name comes from the Gaelic "Mac Gille Bhratha", meaning "son of the servant of judgment," reflecting the clan's historical role as judges and legal authorities within the region.
MacGillivray was historically part of the powerful Clan Chattan Confederation, an alliance of clans including the MacKintoshes, MacPhersons, and MacBeans.
The clan seat was at Ardverikie near Loch Laggan, and the MacGillivray tartan is known for its bold colors and striking pattern, proudly worn by descendants worldwide.
