About The Keith / Austin / Marshall Ancient Tartan
Clan Keith is a noble and historically influential Scottish clan from the northeast Highlands, particularly associated with East Lothian and Aberdeenshire. The Keiths held the hereditary office of Great Marischal of Scotland, a powerful royal role responsible for the king's safety in Parliament and in battle. Over the centuries, several families became associated with the Keiths, either through bloodlines, service, or territorial proximity.
Among them are Austin and Marshall, both recognized as septs (or allied families) of Clan Keith. The name Marshall is especially linked due to its meaning ("horse servant") and potential connection to the role of Marischal. Austin, a variant of Augustine, was also historically linked to the Keiths by regional and familial ties.
