About The Glen Affric Tartan
A reconstruction of the specimen found in a peat bog in Glen Affric and donated to the Scottish Tartans Society in 1985; and now owned by the successor organisation The Scottish Tartans Authority.
This pattern was based on the results of dye analysis and Carbon 14 testing conducted in 2023 which identified a likely date range of 1500-1625 for the specimen with a high probability of it dating between 1500-1600.
Heavily stained with peat, dye analysis identified stripes of green and black/brown on red and yellow ground colours.
Universal Tartan
Glen Affric is a universal tartan, which means it is not associated with any specific clan or family and can be worn by anyone!
