About The Farquharson Ancient Tartan
Clan Farquharson is a proud Highland clan and a key member of the Chattan Confederation - an alliance of clans originally formed for mutual protection. The clan takes its name from Farquhar, son of Alexander Shaw of Rothiemurchus, and rose to prominence in the 16th century.
The Farquharsons became known as fierce warriors and loyal Jacobites, particularly during the 1715 and 1745 uprisings, when Francis Farquharson of Monaltrie led clan forces at the Battle of Culloden.
The clan's heartlands lie in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, and the Farquharsons were traditionally associated with the Deeside region. Their castle, Invercauld House, remains in the family and serves as a lasting symbol of their heritage.
