About The Erskine Modern Tartan
Clan Erskine is a distinguished Lowland Scottish clan with noble roots dating back to the early medieval period. The name Erskine originates from the barony of Erskine in Renfrewshire, west of Glasgow.
The clan rose to prominence through royal service and loyalty to the Scottish crown, holding key positions in government, the military, and the royal household.
One of the most prominent families in Scotland, the Erskines were elevated to nobility and became Earls of Mar, one of the oldest and most prestigious titles in Scotland. The family played major roles in both the Wars of Scottish Independence and later political affairs, including the Jacobite uprisings.
