About The Davidson Modern Tartan
Clan Davidson is one of the principal clans of the ancient Chattan Confederation, a powerful alliance of Highland clans united for mutual protection. The Davidsons are believed to descend from David Dubh of Invernahavon, a 14th-century Highland chief, or possibly from the sons of Gilliecattan Mhor, the founder of Clan Chattan.
The Davidsons were historically based in Badenoch, in the central Highlands, and were fierce warriors - notably taking part in the Battle of Invernahavon (c. 1370), a key clan conflict that established their role within the confederation.
Despite suffering heavy losses in that battle and later conflicts, Clan Davidson remained an integral part of Highland society and has a proud legacy that continues today.
