About The Crawford Ancient Tartan

Clan Crawford is a historic Lowland Scottish clan with ancient roots, believed to descend from Scandinavian or Norman settlers who arrived in Scotland during the early medieval period. The name comes from the barony of Crawford in Lanarkshire, meaning "crow ford" - likely referencing a place where crows gathered near a river crossing.

The Crawfords were prominent supporters of Scottish independence, with members of the clan fighting alongside William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Sir Reginald Crawford was Sheriff of Ayr and is said to have been Wallace's uncle.
