About The MacKintosh Tartan

Clan MacKintosh is one of the most historically significant Highland clans, with roots stretching back to the 12th century in Inverness-shire. The name comes from the Gaelic "Mac an Toisich", meaning "son of the chief" or "son of the leader," reflecting a proud tradition of Highland leadership.

MacKintosh chiefs became the hereditary leaders of the Clan Chattan Confederation, a powerful alliance of Highland clans including MacPherson, MacGillivray, MacBean, and Shaw. The MacKintoshes were influential in Highland politics and warfare, often involved in fierce rivalries with neighboring clans such as the Camerons.
