About The MacCorquodale Ancient Tartan
Clan MacCorquodale is a historic Highland clan traditionally based around Loch Awe in Argyllshire. The name is derived from the Gaelic "MacThorcadail", meaning "son of Torcadal," a Norse personal name - reflecting the clan's mixed Gaelic and Norse roots. According to legend, the founder of the clan was Thorkil (or Torcadal), a Norse warrior who settled in Scotland during the early medieval period.
The MacCorquodales were once hereditary keepers of the Holy Relics of St. Columba and held the lands of Phantelane near Loch Awe until the 17th century, when their fortunes declined.
