About The Ferguson Weathered Tartan
Clan Ferguson (Gaelic: Clann Fhearghuis) is a proud Scottish clan with branches in both the Highlands and Lowlands, all tracing their origins to the Gaelic personal name Fhearghus, meaning "man of strength" or "strong one. "
The name is ancient, and the Fergussons were established throughout Scotland by the medieval period - notably in Argyll, Ayrshire, Perthshire, and Aberdeenshire.
There are several distinct lines of Fergusons, each with their own territorial influence, but they are united under the name and heritage of the clan. The most prominent Highland branch was based in Kilkerran, Ayrshire, and their chief was officially recognized by the Lord Lyon King of Arms in the 18th century.
Clan Ferguson supported the Royalist cause during the Civil Wars and was involved in the Jacobite uprisings.
